GRAND CENTRAL ART GALLERIES, INC. GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL 15 VANDERBILT AVENUE NEW YORK MURRAY HILL 2-2413 CABLE GRANDART July 3, 1935 Mr. Henry O. Tanner, "Edgewood", Trepied par Etaplee, Pas-de-Calais, France. Dear Mr. Tanner:- Several years ago we sold two of your paintings to one of our clients, a Mr. J. J. Haverty. One of them, size about 30/40, upright entitled "The Road to Emaus" has deteriorated very badly. The paint is flaking off and our client would not be content to simply have it restored as he is afraid the canvas will continue to disintegrate. He also says that he would not want another one in place of it that was painted in the same method. Have you any canvas paintings painted directly on canvas regarding which you feel there would be no danger of their flaking off. It seems to me the proper thing to do, under the circumstances, inasmuch as this client is a great admirer of your work, would be to send on two or three equally fine canvases of approximately the same size and let him select one to replace the other one and if you desire it we can return the old canvas so that you could restore it and offer it for sale again. I will appreciate your early reply regarding this matter and assuring you of my very sincere respect, I am, Yours truly, Erwin S Barrie M Manager. ESB:RNM
