finds itself with no "unit men" and therefore no one it can count upon, and as we all know no garden can be left to itself for a period - more or less long - without suffering.

II The director of farms in this region should have his own transportation. He should have a little Ford Camionette, thus being able to do many of his own errands - but primarily he would be able to get quickly from one place to another.

This spring when time was so valuable we often stayed 24 hours in a single place, when if we could have had our own transportation we could have given a push to 2 or 3 places & have been back to our original point in the 24 hours - no small advantage as you will see.

With plowing done at proper time - with 2 or 3 farmers as part of each individual unit, - with a garden plan drawn up for each individual hospital farm - with the assistant to Farm Service having his own transportation - to see quickly that each garden is running to plan - with the Garden Officer always on the spot. - The Red Cross Rept. at each hospital would be relieved of nearly all thought of the garden, and larger results we are sure be obtained.

At Vittel 12,790 kilos of hay sold by Lieut Clark remains unpaid for - 75 fcs the 1000 kilos. Lafauche - French gardner [[gardener]] engaged 3 days a week at 6 fcs per day.
