Fourth, Lippincott is to make the final decision on any questions relating to approach, style, organization of material, and inclusion or exclusion of material and illustrations; in other words, our ruling on any editorial problem is to be understood as final - of course, only after discussion with you and Miss McCausland.

Fifth, the matter of authorship on the title page is left temporarily unresolved. I believe, however, that a satisfactory wording can be worked out between us before the contract is written, giving due regard to Miss McCausland's position as a professional writer whose living largely depends on her literary reputation, and due regard also to your unique position in relation to Robert Henri and to the valiant efforts you have expended on his biography.

Sixth. it is also understood that Miss McCausland will start research and interviews as soon as the contract is signed, giving as much time to it as her teaching commitment will allow, and in the middle of January she will devote full time to this project.

I hope this long letter will not seem too formidable. It is better to have all foreseeable questions clarified in advance, so that the work can go smoothly and the result be a happy one. I have every confidence that we will have a very fine book, one which will fulfill your generous desire to see Robert Henri's life and personality given the recognition and appreciation that his art has already received.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions or make any comments that occur to you.

As ever,
Tay
