Dear Miss Sage:

I have the honor to inform you that the Trustees' Committee on Painting and Sculpture have awarded to you the Watson F. Blair Purchase Prize of $400 for your painting, In the Third Sleep, in the Fifty-sixth Annual American Exhibition: Oil Paintings. We have therefore written Mr. Julien Levy, from whom we obtained the painting, sending him a check for $722.50, which represents the net museum price of the picture, $400 of which is for the prize and $322.50 additional to make up the amount of the purchase.

Needless to say we are most happy to have this attractive and original canvas by you in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.

I am enclosing the usual copyright release which we ask every artist to sign.

Yours sincerely,
Frederick A. Sweet
