Dearest Flora -

Circumstances and coincidences, to say nothing of all the little fishes, contrive to make me realize the horrible fact that you have them too just as well as the rest of us (or just as badly) and with less excuse. Moreover, your writing is illegible to a tantalizing degree - whether the delight of planning the mauve & green door-mat, and influencing it with all intrinsic artistic value, overcome the horror of having one tread the said door-mat or that - I have not as yet been

able to discover - In fact every time that I re-read your letter (I have taken to the childish pastime through necessity) I find that each word might mean something else - It is rather interesting to read a letter as thoroughly illegible as yours, for any version that I may put upon it, is perfectly legitimate, although perhaps incorrect. At any rate, I did distinguish the meaningless word - "Welcome" - and have since decided that it must mean either something definite or a distinct nothing - I shall take it in accord with my mood of the moment.

As you see I am still here but will probably leave either tomorrow or Friday - Then several days of
