Therefore, we must state unequivocally that our financial commitment cannot under any circumstances exceed $1500, and can hopefully be less, specifically for the transportation (New York-Berkeley-New York) of a crated, single-location collection and shipping. Once I have a final list of works from you, with dimensions and weights, I can get a written estimate from our New York shipper, and I will know better where we are at financially. If the cost is more than $1500, we will have to cut number of works accordingly, until we get down to $1500.

In return for the above exhibition and fund commitment, you have agreed to donate a major sculpture (selected by Ray when he was with you in New York) for the costs of fabrication and shipment from Verona to Berkeley (cost not exceed $1500, which is the total of funds available from our acquisitions budget for allocation to the back arts acquisitions committee).

In other words, the outside total available for the exhibition and acquisition is $3000, and we cannot exceed that sum.

We have also reviewed the question of catalogue and announcement. Due to the press of our schedule (to which your show is an unexpected, if pleasant addition), we have decided to waive rights of design approval and production. If you are able to raise funds for a catalogue, and wish to provide us with copies to be sold or given away in conjunction with the exhibition, that is fine. You may of course use our name (University Art Museum, Berkeley) and the exhibition dates as noted above. We have confidence that Eisenmann will design a catalogue which is acceptable to us. The same applies tp an announcement. If you wish to produce an announcement, postcard, or other mailer, you may do so. Again, you may use our name and dates of exhibition. We will accept whatever design and production you use. Our mailing list is 400, and you can provide us with that many copies of the mailer announcement, plus $80 to cover cost of postage for mailing. (We must receive the mailers at least three weeks in advance of the exhibition opening, to assure receipt by third-class mail.) We will not be able to do a reception, for the same reasons of no money.

This latter decision is necessitated by the fact that neither I nor our designer has the time in a committed schedule to supervise the production of an announcement. And, also, we have just decided, due to our budget situation, that we will not be doing announcements or receptions even for our own shows unless funds are provided from outside sources.
