of the eighteen fields of research.* Altogether, data on some ten thousand objects have been collected. From these, approximately four thousand objects will be chosen to be photographed in color and reproduced in the form of color slides. 

As a means of introducing the project to the educational world, the Carnegie Corporation will present complete sets of the slides to a number of selected institutions. Subsequently, the slides will be made available through general sale to institutions of all kinds both in this country and abroad. 

The Study has explored the problem of producing color slides of high quality at a reasonable cost. Extensive experiments have been carried out with every available kind of color film and every known method of duplication. The result has been the development of a technique which, so far as is known, has never been applied to the quantity production of art color slides in this country. The photographs will be made on a new type of color negative 4 x 5 cut film. This film is fine grain and has wide latitude. In addition, it is susceptible to considerable laboratory control and therefore to uniform standards of production. Slides made by this method have been consistently better than those produced under identical conditions with standard reversal films. Furthermore, the slides can be made in any size and quantity and the negatives can be used for other types of color reproduction. Thus, when completed this collection of negatives
