| Feby 20th, 1867 14 | Andrews, Garnett E&M 126. Vol 2| Washington Ga., Feb 18, 1867  Writes to Jacob R. Davis, Agent &c asking for the Contract of Reuben Kendal of Wilkes Co with his freedmen as they wish to sue.  States that the production of the original copy is necessary on the trial, and must be sent on soon as these people will be cheated out of their pay. The contract is headed "Wilkes County" and signed by Reuben Kendall as employer, and Witnessed by Wm C. Ward and James Simmons.  Also signed by Sarah Ann Andrew, Mrs Archy, Grace, Charles, Elias, Armstead, Lucinda and Allen as laborers.  Kendall agrees to furnish them for their services with good and wholesome food and quarters, to allow them half of cash Saturday and to protect them in all their rights.  He also agrees to pay them per month as follows all of them dating their time from Jan 26, 1866, excepting Charles and Elias whose time begins Jan'y 30. their terms of service to end Dec 25, 1866.  Abe per month $13. for his son Miles $5. per mo. Hicky $13. for his daughter Vera $2.50 per month Armsted $13. for his wife Clary 8. for his son Zach 4.50 Lucinda for her son Porter $7. per mo. for her daughter Eugenia $6. and to furnish Lucinda quarters and fuel.  Allen $7. & quarters & fuel for his mother, & for his wife Jennie $6. Sarah Ann $8. Andrew half the net profits of shoe shop; Kendall to furnish materials & tools at expense of shop.  Andrew for his wife Jane $8. Grace $7. Charles $13. Elias $13. & for his wife Mary Jane $6. & furnished quarters & fuel for his wife's mother.  The freedpeople agree to do all necessary work Sundays & holidays & to deduct one dollar cash per month from their wages for the half Saturdays, to allow a suitable deduction from their wages for time lost by sickness &c and for violation of Contract to forfeit half their wages. |
