| 1866. Dec'r 18th. 7. | Baxter Julia Mrs. E.& M. 42, Vol. 2. | Sparta, Ga., Dec'r 6th, 1866. Requests transportation to Houston, Tex., for a number of freedpeople, formerly her slaves. States that they are desirous of going with her to that place; where the most of their relatives are; and that they will not be a burden upon the Gov't, that their names are as follows, viz: Jim, 60 years old; Warren, 40; Freaby a woman, 53 years of age, and Sarah, 11 years, that the roads will be by way of Atlanta, Montgomery, Mobile, New Orleans, and Galveston.  Expects to leave about the 1st of Jan'y next. I Clarence Simmons, Justice J.C. Hancock Co., certifies that he is acquainted with the applicant Mrs. Baxter, and that her statements are true. |

States that he placed Jim Montgomery (freedman) in the Hospital at Atlanta, and took the surgeon's receipt which he has since lost. Requests that $5 be sent him for the expense of putting Jim in the hospital. |

| Jan'y 15th. 9. | Bailey Jacob and 13 others (Freedmen.), Heads of Families. E.& M. 75. 96. | Griffin, Ga., Jan'y 11th, 1867.  Request transportation from Griffin, Ga., to Harrisville, Tex., where they have a promise of good wages. State that they are in destitute circumstances, and cannot long subsist where they are, that they are now having cared for by Mr. J. C. Swayze. |

| Jan'y 15th. 10. | Bozian Shade (Freedman)  E.&M. 77 | Savannah, Ga., Dec'r 29, 1866.  Makes affidavit before Chas. F. Sawyer Agent &c, Savannah, Ga., that he gave J. E. Bryant a Land Warrant, on which to procure the land for him; and that said Warrant is now in a Lawyer's hands, presented by a man from Cincinnati, Ohio, for the purpose of having a transfer made to him. |

| 1867. Jan'y 19th. 11. | Burney John W. Agent &c. L.R. 238 | Madison, Ga., Jan'y 1867.  Makes the following report in the case of Jesse W. Jackson referred to him.  States that Mr. Jackson presented a contract made between five freedmen last year, which was not approved by an Agent of the Bureau; and, with it, claimed the five bales of cotton, levied on by the Sheriff, as the property of the freedmen. Is satisfied, after an investigation of the matter, that there was a private understanding between Jackson and the freedmen that the cotton was to be claimed as the property of the latter. States that Mr. E. W. Thraiter and his counsel, at whose instance the buy was made, have been, all along and still are, perfectly willing to release the portion of the cotton belonging to the freedmen, all that they want being that portion belonging to Mr. Jackson. |

Requests transportation from Augusta, Ga., to Albany, Ga., for Laura Watts, Lucy Watts, Jennie Watts, Fannie Watts, Alick Watts, Rebecca Waiters & Jim Waiters. States that, on searching their destination, these people will not be a charge upon the Gov't, as he will pay them good wages, with rations. |

States that the freedpeople are loth to make contracts; having been badly paid last year, that he has in his office several judgments against employers who refused to pay, denying the authority of the Bureau to render judgment.  Requests instructions. |
