Hopkins Able Col'd

Makes sworn statement that Jas. Hopkins of Abbeville Dist. S.C. did in June 1865, make a contract with deponent, wherein Hopkins was to pay [[strikethrough]] Hopkins [[/strikethrough]] deponent a certain sum of money besides clothing & boarding for working for said Hopkins from date of contract until the crops are gathered. The said Hopkins failing to furnish deponent with food & clothing, he (deponent) left his service on, or about the 10th of Oct. 1865, whereupon Hopkins refused to pay deponent for what work he had done.
