Dear Nell

I saw your show on saturday and it was a pleasure - a real pleasure - to see your paintings! They seemed to be combatting (in a lyrical way) the cold grey [[crossed out]] [[?]] [[/crossed out]] expanse of the New York outside their rooms! I wished very much to have come to the opening but I was sick and in the middle of a period when my flu-cold was threatening to become chronic & I didn't dare go out. But your beautiful announcement was a cheering-up present at that time! 

I'm sending you a copy of the ad we had printed up for W.& A. I put up your "painting piece" on the sample front page because it is such a beautiful positive statement! We are hoping to [[crossed out]] [[?]] [[/crossed out]] get our next issue together in January ...
