Dear Nell,
Thankyou for your letter from New York with it's news of your Doctorate! And thankyou very much for sending the two notebooks (not yet arrived). Clifford send me a roll of drawings and paintings for which thankyou also. Clifford and Elsa's son, Jonathon, his girl and another Danish friend have been staying with me the past week. The occasion was the marriage of Elsa's first born, David, to an american girl at Cambridge. It was fun having them here and they brought news of Clifford, who couldn't make the wedding. I plan to visit them all sometime next year.
I have some very sad news about Mignon and I. She left me just after Christmas. It's true we were having some problems. A sort of staleness had crept into our marriage. But I realized with a shock when she left that the problems were not really so great or insurmount-able as to warrant a break up.
