Dr. Peterson came in the afternoon & decided for the Cowles to have this house & for Bébé & me to stay until I leave Gloucester. From the letter I got from the Lioness this morning, I judge that she doesn't know of this final decision. I am racked with pain for the poor creatures but I cannot endure being with them & since they have no money, it is evidently better for one of them to go & live with her sister & aunt & for some friend to pay the sick one's board somewhere. They ruin each other's health & that of all about them. I felt terribly for them yesterday especially, but last night more lies were told & inane suggestions made to Mrs. Niehaus (a friend of their's) & that has somewhat diminished my sympathy.

I am late & my letter must be short. I go to Berlin in October! What do you think of that?

The breath was nearly knocked out of me when I got the news yesterday. I am to sail the first week in October with Anna, the Lioness & Bébé (the little French girl who has been with us). The Lioness is going to settle us & then return. I am going to see a physician of whom Dr. Peterson highly approves & of whom friends of ours are very enthusiastic on account of what he did for their daughter. She had a strange head illness which made her faint & no one here ever helped her. It wasn't epilepsy but
