So large an amount has been already expended in Va. | Philadelphia Pa Jan 11th 1868. Forwards letter of J M Stradling requesting an appropriation of $5000 from the Freedmens Bureau to build a school house for freedmen's children at Lynchburg, Va. and states that the freedmen have a piece of land to build upon, but to poor to build the building. With the request, that if practical the within request may be granted, a donation of some $2000 is expected will be made expressly for Normal school purposes part, or all of which, would be devoted to this school. |

Main that he has never received pay as clerk for Sept 1867 and states it as his opinion that Lieut Walker received the check in payment of Mr. Mains vouchers, and appropriated the money to his own use. With request if John R. Walker, late 2d Lieut V.R.C. has not yet received his final payment, the amount of the check as described within may be stopped against him for the benefit of the claimant. |
