Thomas Comd'g, Dept of the Cumberland, who disapproving "sofar as relates to the detail of enlisted men" letter bearing endorsement of Lieut H. Benson Brown, 43d Infty & Ch. S.A.C. of Freedmen's Bureau at Paducah, Ky. asking that two enlisted men of the 23d Infty be detailed for duty as messengers in his office. The Comd'g Officer of Memphis recommends - as a matter of economy to the Gov't - that colored messengers be employed at an expense of $10.00 or $15. per month. |

Wm J. Dawes can be relieved from duty in Freedmen's Bureau and ordered to join his Co. for duty at that post. |
