Mme. Sheila Hicks
Atelier des Grands Augustins
30 Rue Dauphine
Paris 6, FRANCE

Dear Sheila:

In a recent report which has been sent by Ron Calvert to Mr. Lund, who is in name the Chairman of the AT&T Art Acquisition Committee, he has said the following: "You'll note that there has apparently been no further activity by Sheila Hicks. The proposed price of her weaving of telephone materials was $30,000, and in early fall she was sent an initial payment of $12,000. But to the best of my knowledge she was never sent a contract, and the materials that she needs from Nassau Recycling have not been shipped." In a memorandum sent by Robbie Glauber which has been sent to Mr. Lund and Stan Smith, he has said the following: "Sheila Hicks, I was told, is being 'handled directly' by Stan Smith, and the Kling people said that they were told to keep hands off. Their feeling was that the Hicks piece was dead." I send you both of these statements because I cannot quite describe the hanky-panky which is going on between Stan Smith and the Kling office.

Stan Smith brought both Robbie and me into the act in order to get a rubber stamp approval of things which he has already purchased and the decorating aspects which Kling and he are planning to commission at an almost unbelievable expenditure of money.

Therefore, it is essential, we feel, that when you are here that you make direct contact with Stan Smith.

If you now know the dates when you will be coming, please let me know so that I will certainly plan to be in New York and hopefully Ron Calvert as well.
