that I had, an interview with you one Sunday morning at your Office, about the time Sherman Commenced his Campaign from Atlanta.

President Lincoln, Mr Seward, and Mr Price of Baltimore was present. It was the occasion of my bringing W.R. Bergholz of Columbia S.C. into communication with the Government, who was afterwards sent to act on General Shermans Staff by Genl Grant. I am known to Wm Price, of Baltimore, or perhaps if you will communicate with H.H. Risley Asst. Solicitor. Treasury Department, it will be sufficient to convince you that I believe fully what I state. May I be permitted to hope Sir, that so excellent a scheme may not be prematurely interrupted, but that these gentlemen may be permitted to show their appreciation of the action of the States, and the policy of the Government, by well nigh accomplishing their purposes. I believe good to the Country would come of it.

With high respect
I am Sir.
