a meeting held here which Col Barnett was President in regard to the reorganization of a State Government for this State and the proceedings of this meeting (I am told) were published in the Augusta papers.

I do not think there was any meeting held for the purposes stated in your letter. I am somewhat acquainted with Col Barnett, as he was [[strikethrough]]one of the[[/strikethrough]] council for the prisoner Reese, that was tried before a Military Commission of late for murder of which I was a member of the Commission. I think Col Barnett is more of a gentleman than to enter into any proceedings of that kind.
