Capt. W.W. Deane:

Sir:
I learn that my Regt. is ordered to be mustered out as soon as papers can be made out. Col. Kimball has received orders to turn over his command to Col. Bogart and proceed to Savannah.

I have two men with me, and I have not received any orders concerning them or myself.

If it is the wish of the General that I should continue as Agent in the Bureau, after I am mustered out, could it not be arranged to have me mustered out here; unless someone is here to look out for the poor negro he will fare very poorly. A change would be bad for both classes here, now.

I have disabused the minds of the people of many erroneous notions, and the property holders are making efforts to secure laborers and the laborers are seeking employment for next year. A change of officers would lead the Freedmen to expect a change in the policy of the Government. There are some who believe and openly say that the "Head man" will come
