them to occupy it for that purpose, thinking it too near the city, or not far enough out. I therefore, was forced to take the cases of small Pox until other arrangements could be made. The city authorities are very poor, but they are doing all they can. In order to arrest the spread of this disease, I ordered Doct Augustus to receive cases as usual until a Pest House can be arranged. I have been obliged to employ another Surgeon for the Small Pox, for the present, I shall have to use some of the money turned over by Genl B. for Refugees and Freedmen here, for other purposes beside schools unless otherwise directed. The Hospital and Home out to have some of it, I think it would be just to do so because the money was a gratuity to this Bureau and was raised here by tax, upon citizens. I have some liabilities which I think should be paid from this fund. I have paid for Hospital matters, for Doct Augustus about $275.00 for October. Four or five hundred dollars more will be due this month. I am pressed upon on every hand to do something for Refugees, Freedmen, Hospitals Pest Houses, Schools, and d l knows what all.

Any instruction or suggestion from Genl Tillson will be promptly obeyed in the premises.
