I think it is pretty rough for you to forward a letter marked "private & confidential" to the General but as it is done I don't know that it will make any difference. I enclose a letter from my father which I got this morning. He is in a peck of troubles and evidently very blue. I don't doubt but that the darkies will steal extensively and feel that they should have some protection though I don't see exactly how they are going to get it. It is certain that there is not a plantation scarcely on the coast where they the darkies get a better showing having two thirds of the crop and it only fair that they should stand up to what they have agreed to.
