| January 11th 1869. #1. | Mississippi. A.C. Gillem Genl. 2 encls Jany 18th Returned. E.Bp 273. Vol 5. | Vicksburg. Jany 4th 1869. Forwards letter of Lt. J.W. Sunderland D.O. & A.A.Q.M. reporting the sale of Confederate State Property at Columbus, Miss in accordance with instructions from A.C. of Miss and Circular No 10. War Dept. Bureau R.F.&A.L. Nov 17th 1868. States that previous to sale, protests were entered against it. Encloses Deeds as recorded in P.C. office County of Lounds. Miss and asks for instructions and authority to deed the property to purchases. With remark. In view of the fact that there appears to have been a misapprehension in regard of sale of this land, arising from the fact that it is divided into several lots only the one upon which the school building is headed was withdrawn from sale; whereas he is informed by Genl. C.H. Howard, that it was the instruction of the Comr. to order that none of the real estate pertaining to the late Rebel Government should be sold. Lieut. Sunderland has been ordered to suspend further action in the case until the wishes of the Comr are made known. |

| Jany 19th 1869 #4 | Markwood W. late Agt and Clerk in S.C. Jany 19th. Referred to A.C. of S.C. | Washington D.C. Jany 18th 1869. Reports action of Mr. Everson Agent and Inspector Bureau R.F.A.L., on forwarding list of amounts due U.S. Government by planters for supplies issued to them by him. Markwood with orders from Major Weide to collect the accounts as computed by Everson, although he informed them that his accounts did not compare with Everson's, and that the Govt. would be defrauded were he to obey his orders. He collected the amount as computed by himself and if in so doing he collected more than was due the Govt. the freed people were defrauded, therefore asks that an investigation be made. |

Callcutt for $6.25 for foraging Bureau horse which the D.O. of S. Carolina refused to pay. States that he was obliged to place the horse in Mr. Callcutt's stable as forage was not sent to him for seven (7) days after it was due and that he paid the acc. out of his own private funds,[[?]] |
