Mr. Germain Seligman,
3 East 51st Street,
New York City.

Dear Mr. Seligman:

I am sending you herewith the statement regarding the bust which the St. Louis Museum purchased. Unfortunately, I can not say positively that it is by Riemenschneider. In fact, I am sure it is by a contemporary [[strikethrough]] Suabian [[/strikethrough]] Franconian artist who is an independent master, but I expressed it in such a way that I think the Museum will be interested, as they should.

I wonder if you would do me a great favor and help me as you did last year in regard to Mrs. Valentiner's and my passport. First it has to be sent to the German General Consul in New York to have the time extended for a year. I am enclosing a letter for this purpose to the German General Consul, and I am sure there will be no difficulty. It may be more difficult to get the French vise but I do not doubt that with your kind help it could be secured for us. One could mention possibly that we are going on a French boat -- on the Paris on February 5. We would like to have the vise for 3 weeks after febr. 10. I hope you do not have too much trouble with this.

I am sorry that after I had talked with the Arts Commission they were not in favor of having the Modern French Exhibition from Count de Hauke. One of the reasons is that he seems to have a firm of his own now, and they are not inclined to have only one dealer represented, as other dealers of modern paintings have been refused several times when they have desired special exhibitions of their own. If it had been an exhibit of the kind you th thought first you would be able to secure it would be different, and I still hope we can arrange something of this sort when we are in the new building.

With best Christmas wishes to you and M. Rene, I am

Sincerely yours,
W. R. Valentiner
