Dr. W.R. Valentiner
Ritz-Carlton Hotel
New York

Dear Dr. Valentiner,-

I am ever so sorry to have missed your visit this morning. I would have been delighted to see you again, and I hope there will be another opportunity in the near future. I remember having had the pleasure to make your acquaintance last year when I had luncheon with you and Dr. August Mayer in my uncle's company, and I had also met you 2 or 3 times before.

I am sending you herewith the photograph which you asked for this morning, and here are the particulars I have about it: this bust comes from the collection of Comtesse Laloyere, who had inherited it from the Marquise de Migeux. Dr. Bode attributes the bust to Torregiani. According to my uncle's opinion, it was the work of Conrad Meit, who had been active in the neighborhood of Dijon.

I am myself stopping at the Ritz and will take the liberty to call you up so that I may see you very soon, should you be too busy to drop in again, but I have one or two very interesting things that you have not yet seen and that I would very much like to see you.

Looking forward to the pleasure of seeing you soon, believe me,

Yours sincerely,
