Detroit, Mich.

My dear Dr. Valentiner,

I thank you very much for your kind letter which I just received, and I am very pleased to see that you are satisfied with the purchase of the Italian picture, and also that the passport has reached you.

As regards the cabin for the French Line, I am sorry to say that there is a mistake. You took the number of the cabin for the price, and the cabin is higher than you thought it was, so I don't deserve the compliments you give me for having been able to get such a reduction. However, the price is considerably less than you had allowed me to spend for you.

Thanking you for taking up the matter of the cassone in Detroit, believe me, with best regards,

Yours very sincerely,
