Dear Bob:

Many thanks for your two letters which I found here yesterday on my return from a fortnight in Palm Beach. The watercolors have arrived, too, and I must say they are thrilling. Unfortunately, you are tempting me at a very bad time, for I am feeling extremely poor. I only wish I could find a way of acquiring one of the de la Frenay's, especially as the prices are so very reasonable, but I am afraid I can do nothing at the present moment.

Dr. Valentiner is enchante1d with the beautiful Guys which he calls a "darling"! He has whisked it away to his office and is going to bring it up at the next meeting of the Arts Commission as a possible acquisition for the Museum. You will hear the results soon, I hope, either directly from Dr. Valentiner or from myself.

I do appreciate greatly the personal favor and consideration which you have accorded me and I am only sorry that I cannot reciprocate in kind, but I am sure you understand the situation. Maybe sometime soon things will be a little better and I may then be able to do something about one of the de la Fresnaye's, all of which I really like enormously.

I will be in New York later in the Spring and will let you know beforehand. My summer plans are extremely vague and whether it will be Europe or not I cannot yet say.

Let me hear from you soon. Very best wishes,

As ever,
Jack
