THE DETROIT INSTITUTE OF ARTS OF THE CITY OF DETROIT ARTS COMMISSION EDSEL B. FORD, PRESIDENT ALBERT KAHN ROBERT H. TANNAHILL EDGAR B. WHITCOMB COMMISSIONERS W.R. VALENTINER DIRECTOR EDGAR P. RICHARDSON ASSISTANT DIRECTOR CLYDE H. BURROUGHS SECRETARY 21 January 1938 RL Robert M. Levy, Esq. 3 East 51st Street New York City, N.Y. Dear Bob: Many thanks for your good letter and for sending on approval the beautiful de la Fresnaye drawing about which everyone I have shown it to is most enthusiastic. However, I do think the price is terribly steep, regardless of the rarity or the quality of the drawing itself. What I am really more anxious to get is one of the abstract water-colors like some of those shown at the Petit Palais last summer. If you come across any, keep me in mind. I am much obliged to you for sending on the drawing and am only sorry that I cannot possibly consider it at the price. I will have it returned to you at the beginning of the week. With very best wishes and appreciation, As ever, Jack
