A painting by Fantin-Latour (1805-1875) "The Two Sisters" or "Les Brodeuses".

Height: 38-1/2"  Width: 51-1/2"

They are seated, one on either side of a tapestry loom, on which on the left side Nathalie is working with her face turned to the spectator and her hand on the loom, where a mixture of multi-colored threads are placed. To the right, Marie is seated with her profile to the left, reading a book. In the background, two frames.

This picture was refused in the Salon of 1859. Later on in the same year, it was exhibited by Fantin-Latour in the Atelier of Bonvin, where this artist, to protest against the refusals of the official Salon, organized a little exhibition of the works of his friends who had been refused.

"The Apple Seller" or "Idyl", painted around 1888.

A sparkling painting showing a group in a wood; at the left, a woman with a deep straw hat and wearing a blue apron, bends to display her basket of apples to a young woman in white, and two little girls - one in a rose, and the other in a blue dress, who are seated on the grass.
