Dear Mr. Grigaut:

While I was in Europe trying to organize an exhibition of paintings and drawings of Baron Gros, Mr. Gobin told me that the full-length drawing of Bonaparte which he had owned a number of years ago was now in Detroit. As you may know, he has retired, and his memory does not seem to be quite faithful. However, he was under the impression that it had been purchased a great many years ago by Mrs. Ralph H. Booth, and I am taking the liberty of inquiring whether you could help me out on this matter, as, should I hold this exhibition -- probably with the Cleveland Museum and maybe another public institution -- such a drawing should, of course, be included.

If I am not mistaken your museum also owns an important battle sketch, "Aboukir" (?). If my information is correct in this respect, I would by and by write to Mr. E.P. Richardson asking him whether it could be lent, as I have every hope that the show I am organizing will be, indeed, a very representative one.

Thanking you in advance for your kind answer, and with personal regards,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
