FOUR PRIMITIVES GIVEN BY LEHMAN
BJU GALLERY GIVEN ITALIAN WORKS
The president of Bob Jones University announced today that the gallery of the local institution had received four Italian primitives as a gift from Robert Lehman of New York.

Dr. Bob Jones Jr. characterized the paintings as important works of the 14th and 15th centuries. They are now on display in the Gothic Room of the Bob Jones University Art Gallery and Museum.

Mr. Lehman, a philanthropist and well-known collector of art, is president of the Lehman Corp., an investment trust; vice president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and a member of the visiting committee of Fogg Museum.

The Lehman collection is one of the three must valuable private collections in the world.

The french government sponsored a showing in Paris last year of paintings and other works of art from the Lehman collection. This was the first time any American collection had been so honored.

The paintings which Mr. Lehman has contributed to the Bob Jones University collection are "Virgin and Child with Donor" by Niccolo di Pietro, "Virgin and Child with St. Ann and Angels" by Bicci di Lorenzo, "Virgin and Child with Angels" ("Madonna of Humility") by Andrea di Bartolo, and "Dead Christ with Mourning Angels" by Bartolomeo Vivarini.

Niccolo di Pietro was a Venetian artist who was active in late 14th century; Bicci di Lorenzo was a Florentine painter in the 15th century; Andrea di Bartolo was from Sienna and painted between 1389 until 1426; and Bartolmeo Vivarini was active in Venice in late 15th century.
