Dear Mr Seligman

Thank you so much for your letter about my forthcoming visit to New York. I know that it is rather late in the 'season' but for various reasons had to come to the USA at this time. I am sorry to say that it will be virtually impossible for me to come much before the first lecture, as I have a commitment earlier in May. In fact, I fear that I shall have to come on Friday 11 overnight, or Saturday 12 May. Therefore, I am afraid that we may end up boxing and coxing, which is a great shame. Needless to say, however, I hope this will not be the only time I come over. In any case I shall be back in England by the early days of June, and so perhaps we shall be able to meet over here once again. I much look forward to renewing our acquaintance.

Yours sincerely
Charles Avery.
