Dear Mr. Pope-Hennessy:

Your kind and interesting lines of April 13th have just reached me and without delay I wish to express my thanks for having answered me with such details.

I am delighted to learn that you are in agreement with Dr. Middeldorf's attribution. Though I had carefully compared my PIETA with the tombs at the Certosa and the "Christ at the Column" in the Milan Cathedral you bring out further elements of analogy which stylistically and technically link these different sculptures - they are of great value.

I would so much like to show you the original for no doubt you would admire it.

By all means, do keep the photographs for your files.

With warm regards,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
