Dear Germain:

Phyllis and I have been studying the small drawing by Bonington which I selected on my last visit to New York, and we both decided that we would prefer to acquire a more important example. Therefore, we are returning it by air express, prepaid, and plan to select another when the opportunity presents itself.

Since we now have such a large collection, we should really concentrate on purchases of greater importance than this charming little drawing. I expect to be in New York for a day or two next week and would like to look at your watercolor by Bonington as well as some of your drawings and watercolors by other painters.

I am certain that you will understand our point of view.

Sincerely,
Dick
