November 14, 1952

Dear Dick:

I thank you for your lines of November 12, and let me say that the manuscripts from the collection of the Dukes d'Arenberg are for sale.

It is not only "a most important group" as you write but a most exceptional one if not unique, outside of course of the Morgan and Walters collections.

It includes manuscripts from the year 1000 to the middle of the 16th century.

The catalogue has been established by Professor Meyer Schapiro, one of the best authorities in this specialized field, as you know, but I am afraid that the printed catalogue with photographs will not appear for another two or three weeks due to unexpected and unfortunate delays.

As regards paintings by Juan Gris the only one I have left is a "Harlequin". In fact I own it in partnership with Roland Balay where you might have seen it of late, as it was in his gallery for the past few months.

However, should this specification not remind you of the painting I will gladly send you a photograph.

I am happy to read the Tocque and the Winterhalter look so well in your exhibition, and do let me have a catalogue of it at your leisure.

With all good wishes,

Sincerely,

(Germain Seligman)
