September 26, 1952

Dear Germain:

It was good to see you looking so well and to spend some time with you on September 16.

As I have already written you, I am delighted that you and Ethylene can lend your portrait of EMPRESS EUGENIE by Winterhalter to our forthcoming exhibition, GREAT PORTRAITS BY FAMOUS PAINTERS.

I am equally pleased that you can lend us your firm's magnificent portrait of THE DUKE OF ORLEANS by Tocqué. I believe that these loans will not only do credit to your taste, but also contribute a great deal to the success of our exhibition.

In compliance with your request regarding a proper frame for the painting by Tocqué, I have discussed the matter with Lowy and suggested that they lend a suitable frame and make an insert to absorb the difference in dimensions between the painting and the frame. We naturally expect to take care of the cost of such an insert along with the packing, shipping and insurance of both your loans. If agreeable with you, we shall arrange with Budworth to collect the two paintings during the week of October 27. However, I would like to know whether you want Budworth to call at the apartment or gallery for the painting by Winterhalter.

I am preparing a modest catalogue, and I would appreciate photographs of both paintings as well as dimensions and other data at your earliest convenience. Since I realize that you are probably still in Europe, I hope that Mrs. parker can take care of this in case she is handling your mail.

With best wishes, as always,

Sincerely,
Dick
