July 30, 1952

Dear Germain:

I have your letter of July 23 and am overjoyed that you and Ethlyne have agreed to lend your portrait by Winterhalter to our forthcoming exhibition, GREAT PORTRAITS BY FAMOUS PAINTERS.

I have secured some marvelous loans, and am confident that this will be the most important exhibition of its kind which we have attempted to organize ourselves. I am certain that your painting will contribute to the success of the exhibition. As I have written you, we naturally expect to take care of all expenses in connection with packing, shipping, and insurance.

I do hope that you can furnish us with a couple of 8 x 10 glossy photographs of the painting, and are willing to grant permission for us to reproduce it in connection with our catalogue or related publicity. We can discuss this when I see you in New York on or about September 16.

As I wrote you, Phyllis and I are leaving August 14 for Madrid. We will gradually work our way north and spend some time in Paris, where we will call on your brother. We are flying from London September 15, and I hope to spend the following day seeing you, Curt, and a few other friends in connection with the exhibition. I am certain that your other firm will have a number of portraits of interest, which you may be willing to lend us. I am thinking along the lines of TocquƩ, etc.

I hope that this reaches the gallery before vacation time, and that Mrs. Parker will forward the extra copy which I am enclosing to you in the Virgin Islands.

Sincerely,
Dick
