Gentlemen:

Mrs. Swartwout, the director of the Museum, has forwarded your letter of July 8th to me and asked me to get in touch with you.

The painting, "East River" by Jacob Getlar Smith was returned to him at 63 East 57th St., New York, at his personal request. On June 26th he wrote to us asking us to return the canvas to the above address at the close of the exhibition. It was delivered on July 1st, signed receipt for same being held in our files.

Trusting that this information will clear the matter up, I am,

Yours very truly,
