October 4, 1979

Mr. Roy Peratrovich

Anchorage, AK 99503

Dear Roy:

Congratulations and the best of wishes for a continued active career as advocate for Indians as you retire from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and enter into a new field of endeavor. Your retirement is a great loss to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and a great gain for Sealaska.

Over the past twenty years, it has been my privilege to first work under you in Tribal Operations, then, with experience gained in that job, work side by side as a fellow Agency Superintendent. Your philosophy of Indian advocacy is action oriented. I gained much by working with you and following the history of your accomplishments in the field of human rights. You have accomplished much about which you can be proud no matter who says otherwise.

I shall always cherish the memories of our acquaintance and working experiences with you -- even when we were always in hot water, it seems, for speaking our piece. Your position may be filled but no one can ever fill your shoes. Dedication and sacrificial service to others appears to be principles of the past.

My wife and I, as well as our two boys, would have enjoyed attending your retirement dinner. We all wish you God's blessing and guidance as you continue your active life of helping others. You are always welcome to visit us.

Sincerely,

Peter P. Three Stars
