290 (262) (294) July 12th Colonel, Your communication of the 17th inst. has been received and the Asst Commr directs that you are to ascertain the names of all the parties connected with the affair of driving Mr Conway out of the town of Cuthbert and call upon the Civil Authorities to arrest these persons. and to punish them in compliance with the laws of this State. If the Civil Authorities refuse to comply with your request, you will arrest the parties and confine them within the Jail at Cuthbert, reporting your action of the case to this office. You will also call on the Civil Authorities of Clay Co to arrest and try the murderers of the freedman referred to in your report of the 17th inst. Respectfully Your Obt Servt Theo. F.
