Dear Mr. Stephens:--

I have tried once or twice to see you at your office, but failed. I wanted to chat with you a little about the Durango Mining scheme, and, as I may not have an opportunity to see you before starting on my European trip next Tuesday, I take this means of saying that, after full consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I had better not undertake any additional mining ventures. I am considerably interested in several now--more really than a person of my small courage should undertake. I have no doubt that if the right crowd of men could get together to take up the Durango property, it could be made very valuable.

With kindest regards, and wishing you a very happy summer, I am,

Yours faithfully,
Charles L Freer
