#33 Ferry Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, May 11, 1901.

My dear Mr. Coffin:--

Your good letter of the 8th instant is received and carefully noted.

I have seen Mr. Hanna about collecting in the pictures, and he will gather the same, box and forward them to Mr. Hoddick, as requested.

Both Col. Hecker and I appreciate the many obstacles you are encountering in your efforts to secure a group of Mr. Whistler's paintings, and do not even yet consider the matter hopeless. We will, as requested by you, send the four Whistlers for exhibition, unconditionally, that is, regardless of whether or not the owners of the other pictures you are seeking consent to their exhibition.

The titles of those to be forwarded are as follows:
"The Music Room", owned by Frank J Hecker.
"The Balcony" Harmony in Flesh Colour and Green
"Bognor"-Nocturne.
"Southhampton"-Nocturne. [Owned by C. L. Freer]
