Detroit, Michigan,
October 28th, 1901.

Dear Mr. McBride:--
I have at last completed the selection of pottery about which we have recently corresponded. The lot of pottery numbers in all eighty-seven pieces, bearing numbers, to which I have added twenty-six pieces of bronze, etc., lettered A. to Z. Each piece is marked or numbered, and my man will pack and forward them, addressed to you care of your office, the latter part of this week. Mr. Kennedy will forward later in the week an invoice and descriptive list of every piece. I think you will find the entire lot very suitable for Christmas gifts. The pieces of bronze are particularly fine, and are the cream of my group of bronze, which I have been gathering during the last twelve years. I have decided to dispose of this bronze, and in future confine my collecting and study to the work of the potters and painters of the Orient. When you examine the articles, I want you to feel at perfect liberty to return any which may seem to you either too good or too bad to give away. Understand, they are all for sale, but because they are sent by me, don't treat them differently from what you would those that you might find in any store.

I shall leave Detroit to-night, to be absent about
