Dear Tom:--

During the last three or four days, both Freddie and I have been attending to your shopping, and I think we have succeeded in getting everything mentioned on your list, excepting the cream separator. It was impossible to find such an article in any of the house-furnishing stores, but we were directed to some place on Gratiot Avenue where they are manufactured. Freddie agreed to attend to this item, and he has reported to me to-day that the smallest one he could find would be equal to the capacity of the milk of two cows; the balance of the details he will explain to you by letter. The coffee, codfish, Kippered herring, split peas, canned pumpkin, yeast cakes and pop corn, and a dozen packages of miscellaneous grains were purchased at McMillan's. The dentifrice and plaiter were purchased elsewhere. The clipper, curtain rods, asbestos plates and general hardware came from Weber's. I said to General Alger that you were anxious to read his book, and he kindly sends you a copy with his compliments. Some books from Flynn also go.
