he would recommend that a modest sum be set aside for lectures. It is too early at present to state very accurately the prospects, but he said to me that within a week or ten days, he would know quite fully the conditions, and that he would then call upon me and let me know the results. He furthermore said that, if the fund should be created, he would take much pleasure in inviting one lecture from you, the same to be delivered at your convenience, practically any time during January or February. I hope, for the sake of Detroit, the fund will materialize. As soon as a decision is reached, I will be pleased to let you know what it is. If we are to be favored with the lecture, I suppose the time most agreeable to you would be when you are en route either to New York or Minnesota.

I am planning to spend a few days in New York during the latter part of January, when the Marquand Collection is on exhibition, but, aside from this short absence, I am planning to be in Detroit practically all of the time up to say April 1st, and I would be delighted to see you here at any time. Our little seances with the Japanese things give me not only a great deal of pleasure, but also more instruction than you know.
