Aberdeen Miss April 18" 1867, Respectfully returned to Major Smith Asst Sub Comr, Columbus, with the information that every effort has been made on my part to ascertain the whereabouts, name, age &c of the orphan Children mentioned within, without any practical results - Mr Holmes represents them now as being unwilling to leave their present homes to go away to an orphans home, and having made the application to have them sent away and provided for at his request, I think the better way would be to let them go and shirk for themselves -
