Gentlemen:--

Your kind note of the 6th instant reached me yesterday, and I deeply regret to learn of the sudden illness of Mr. Alfred Chapmen, whom I had expected to have entertained here as my guest during the coming week.

Will you kindly present to him my sympathy and best wishes for his speedy recovery.

Trusting that his illness is only temporary and that he may be coming to this country on some quickly following steamer, I remain, dear sirs, with thanks for your kindness,

Yours faithfully,

Charles L Freer
