Livingstone, Esq., Manager, Detroit Photographic Co., City My dear Sir:-- On my return home this morning from a week's absence, I found your kind letter of the 24th instant, together with the prints mentioned. I must confess my surprise at the possibility of reproduction shown in the specimens received. Your copies of the gray etchings and lithographs are remarkable and accurate enough to become dangerous if circulated. The copy of the Thames lithographs might, by the unitiated, be easily taken for an original, and I do hope that, in deference to the interests of the late Mr. Whistler, you will issue no more impressions. If tinting were to be added to some of the reproductions of lithographs, I am sure they would puzzle even experts who are familiar with Mr. Whistler's work.
