Lieut.
Your favor of 8th Inst. just received. Genl Gregory is at present absent on the tour of inspection and will probably visit you on his return.

In the absence from the state laws in regard to Minors and orphans of any rule to govern the matter, you will make such disposition of them as you best can untill some settled policy is adopted in such cases.

In contracts either monthly wages or a share of the crop will be approved the only rule to be observed is that they are fair and Just, in either case see that the freedman is guarteed [[guaranteed]] food, Quarters Clothing and Medical Attendance, the details may vary, will be left to your discretion.

I am. Sir.
Very Respectfully
