Inclosed please find Par. I, Special Orders No. 62, current series from this office, relieving you from duty as an agent of the Bureau; also a copy of the application for your appointment with the indorsements on the same. By indorsement of General Howard, dated Sept. 24, 1868, you will observe that the application is disapproved.

I am directed by General Reynolds to express his satisfaction with the manner in which you have discharged your duties while acting as agent of the Bureau, and his regret that the Commissioner has declined to make the appointment. 

Mr. Hiram Clark has been ordered to Victoria to relieve you and you will please retain the records of your office until his arrival.

You can make out your pay accounts to include the 10 inst. and forward them to the Disbursing Officer for payment.

In reply to so much of your letter of the 13 inst., as regarding an order exempting from arrest C.J. Hassell, deputy Sheriff and S.D. Moffict who acted under the orders of Fred W. Reinhard, Sub. Asst. Comr., I am directed by General Reynolds to say that, should any action be taken against them by the Civil authorities, it will then be sufficient time to report the matter for the action of General Reynolds.
