In reply to your communication of the 23rd inst. asking what to do with certain parties who have been committing outrages upon certain freed people when they may be arrested and brought before you, I am directed by the Asst. Commissioner to say that they will be placed under sufficient bond to ensure their trial under the law of the State of Texas.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your report of the murder of Mr. W.G. Kirkman, late S.A.C. at Boston, Texas, and am directed by Genl. Reynolds to request you to hold his effects until they can be taken by the family of the deceased.

Copies of the papers have been furnished Lt. J.T. Kirkman brother of the deceased.

Accounts of expenses incurred in his burial will be sent you by the A.A.Q.M. for your certificate.
